Loch Leven is the result of hard work by its owners over the last 33 years and is still evolving. This 3-acre garden is set on a small farm in the Amuri Basin. The structured and restful garden is made up of many different areas. Native areas provide shelter and an evergreen back drop along the Nor’west boundary. Hedging has been used extensively. Large borders are filled with a rich array of plants giving ever-changing vistas. Deciduous trees are planted throughout the large expanse lawn and garden. Wire art and locally sourced boulders are a focal point within the garden. A summerhouse nestled between peony beds and espaliered fruit trees adds tranquillity.

Over the years, Mike has designed and created many structural features including potager beds and paved areas with old bricks from nearby homesteads salvaged from the 2016 earthquake.

There are many areas to sit, rest and enjoy this lovely garden; while the nursery has a wide selection of plants, which are propagated from the garden itself and are available for purchase onsite and online.

Price: $15 per person to visit the garden. Children free.

Open by appointment: 9am - 5pm from September to April.

Directions from Christchurch
Head north on state highway 1 until Waipara, turn left onto State Highway 7 towards Hanmer Springs. Drive through Culverden, approximately 2km north of Culverden, turn to the right signposted ‘Rotherham’, ‘Waiau’, ‘Kaikoura’. We are 7.14kms from here on the right. From Hanmer Springs Take the road towards Culverden, turn left at Mouse Point corner onto Flintofts Road, turn left onto Rotherham Road South, we are approximately 2km on the right hand side.
